Face to Face PhotoNot to be confused with the 1990s California punkers of the same name, the Boston quintet Face to Face played a poppy dance-rock hybrid tailor-made for mid-'80s radio and MTV. Consisting of singer Laurie Sargent, guitarists/keyboardists Stuart Kimball and Angelo Petraglia, bassist John Ryder, and drummer Billy Beard, Face to Face recorded a self-titled debut in 1984 with four different producers, including Arthur Baker. 1985's Confrontation was produced mostly by Baker and Ed Stasium, while Anton Fier stepped behind the boards for 1988's One Big Day. However, aside from the first album's "10-9-8," which scraped the lower reaches of the Top 40 at #38, Face to Face never scored the pop success they aspired to, and disbanded shortly after their third album. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide
