Modern English PhotoFORMED: 1979
DISBANDED: 1991

British punk quintet from Colchester formed in 1979 and featuring singer and guitarist Robbie Grey, guitarist Gary McDowell, bassist Mick Conroy, keyboard player Stephen Walker, and drummer Richard Brown. By 1990, personnel changes had left the group a trio of Grey and Conroy, with keyboardist, guitarist, and singer Aaron Davidson. In the early '90s, "I Melt With You" was played in a successful Burger King ad.

Modern English disbanded one year later, then re-formed in 1996 for a live tour. Modern English started recording another album with After the Snow producer Hugh Jones in 2001. ~ William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide
