Best known for their new wave cult classic "88 Lines About 44 Women," The Nails formed in Boulder, Colorado, comprising vocalist Mark Campbell, bassist George Kaufman, saxophonist Douglas Guthrie, drummer Mike Ratti, keyboardist Dave Kaufman, and guitarist Sean O'Rourke. They moved to New York and established themselves on the club circuit in the late '70s. A 1981 EP, Hotel for Women, contained an early, minimalistic version of "88 Lines About 44 Women"; the track was later fleshed out on the Nails' 1984 debut LP, Mood Swing. However, the group failed to catch on commercially, and 1986's Dangerous Dreams proved to be their final studio effort. A best-of collection, Corpus Christi, was released in 1993. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide
