A post-punk group from Manchester led by former orchestra percussionist Dick Witts (vocals, keyboards), the Passage managed to draw equally from jazz fusion and jazzy art-rock (i.e., The Soft Machine) and the abrasive art-punk of bands like The Fall, Wire, and Gang of Four. The Passage recorded four independent-label albums in Britain, beginning with 1980's Pindrop; a best-of compilation, Through the Passage, was issued in 1983. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide
